A chaotic and violent day turned to tragedy Saturday as hundreds of white nationalists, neo-Nazis, Ku Klux Klan members — planning to stage what they described as their largest rally in decades to “take America back” — clashed with counterprotesters in the streets and a car plowed into crowds, killing one person and injuring 19 others.
Video recorded at the scene shows a gray car accelerating into crowds on a pedestrian mall, sending bodies flying — and then reversing at high speed, hitting yet more people. Witnesses said the street was filled with people opposed to the white nationalists who had come to town bearing Confederate flags and anti-Semitic epithets.
City officials said it was too soon to tell whether the car crash was intentional, but the driver of one of the vehicles was taken into custody. Angela Taylor, a spokeswoman for UVA Medical Center, said 20 people were brought to the hospital in the early afternoon after three cars collided in a pedestrian mall packed with people, many of them counterprotesters. She confirmed that one had died, but declined to release further details. Earlier, police had evacuated a downtown park as rally goers and counterprotesters traded blows and hurled bottles and chemical irritants at one another, putting an end to the noon rally before it officially began.

O’Shaughnessy, Pacific Air Forces commander, in a statement following the North’s most recent test of an intercontinental ballistic missile. “If called upon, we are ready to respond with rapid, lethal, and overwhelming force at a time and place of our choosing.” But what would this response look like? CBS News correspondent Vladimir Duthiers traveled to bases all around U.S. Pacific Command for  On Assignment” to find out. He met with Air Force, Army and Navy personnel to learn how the U.S. would counter a nightmare scenario — or better yet, prevent it from coming to pass. “We prefer for this to be a deterrent,” said Col. David Shoemaker, the commander of Kunsan Air Base in South Korea, home of the 8th Fighter Wing — known as “The Wolfpack” — as his F-16  fighter jet roared through a simulated bombing run. But, should their efforts at deterrence fall short, he said, “May God have mercy on the Wolfpack’s prey.”

A preventive first strike nuclear attack is now being contemplated against North Korea. And this is where Geography 101 comes in.
The distance between the centre of South Korea’s capital Seoul and the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ)marking the border with North Korea is 57 km or 35 miles, half the distance between Manhattan and New Jersey (71 miles via Interstate Highway 95S). The distance between Seoul and Pyongyang is about 121 miles, less than the distance between the Trump Tower in Manhattan and The Trump Taj Mahal Casino in Atlantic City (131 miles). South Korea’s Gimpo international airport is barely 2 miles from the border with North Korea. The distance between Seoul and the historical city of Kaesong in North Korea is 40 miles.
A nuclear attack against the DPRK would inevitably engulf  both North and South Korea, ie. the entire Korean peninsula, depending on the size and explosive yield of the nuclear bombs. Pyongyang is close to the Chinese border. The DPRK has a border with the Russian Federation. The City of Vladivostok is approximately 100km from the DPRK border. The entire Northeast Asian region –which largely consists of five countries– would also be affected  by the nuclear blast. In a bitter irony, two of these countries, namely Japan and South Korea are staunch allies and military partners of the US.

President Abbas: ‘Jerusalem is the eternal capital of Palestine’ (Source alaraby.co.uk) President Mahmoud Abbas referred to Jerusalem as “Palestine’s eternal capital city” during a speech on Saturday evening which appears to be an attempt to gain credibility among Palestinians.
Abbas, who is rapidly losing support among Palestinians, spoke to a group of Jerusalemites at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah, according to Palestine’s state agency Wafa. “We must make sure the victory in Jerusalem is not lost so we achieve further victories in the future,” Abbas said. It follows criticism for Abbas’ public absence during recent tensions between Palestinians and Israel in Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank. “The Palestinian leaders listened to what Jerusalemites’ asked, which is something that will continue,” he said, following discussions about mass acts of civil-disobedience organised by Palestinians in Jerusalem. Abbas, whose presidency expired in 2009, also said that the mistakes of 1948 – when Israel was founded – must not be repeated and urged the Palestinian people to be patient.

The name Weed already belongs to an old mill town in Northern California. American Green Inc. announced it is buying all 80 acres of Nipton, which includes its Old West-style hotel, a handful of houses, an RV park and a coffee shop. Its plans are to transform the old Gold Rush town into what it calls “an energy-independent, cannabis-friendly hospitality destination.” The town’s current owner, Roxanne Lang, said the sale is still in escrow, but confirmed American Green is the buyer. Congress Is Heading for a Confrontation With Sessions Over Marijuana (Source Bloomberg)
Congress is heading for a confrontation with Attorney General Jeff Sessions over pot. Sessions is seeking to crack down on marijuana use while lawmakers from both parties are pushing legislation that would do the opposite. Measures have been attached to must-pass bills in the Senate that would allow Veterans Affairs doctors to counsel patients on the use of medical marijuana, and to continue blocking the Justice Department from pursuing cases against people who use medical marijuana in states that have legalized it. Some lawmakers are pushing to go even further. Senator Cory Booker, a New Jersey Democrat, this week unveiled legislation that would legalize marijuana at the federal level. In the House, Republican Matt Gaetz of Florida proposed legislation that would change the federal classification of marijuana to allow research and a range of medical uses.
Booker said the law needs to be changed because minorities and the poor are disproportionately arrested for what amounts to a minor offense.
