Iran confirms missile test, denies breach of nuclear deal

Iran confirmed on Wednesday that it had tested a ballistic missile, but denied that was a breach of its 2015 nuclear deal with world powers. The comments from Defence Minister Hossein Dehghan came after the UN Security Council met Tuesday to discuss the weekend test, which Washington described as “absolutely unacceptable”.

“The action was in line with boosting Iran’s defence power and is not in contradiction with the JCPOA (the nuclear deal) or Resolution 2231,” Dehghan said. He was referring to a UN Security Council resolution that bans Iran from developing missiles that can carry nuclear warheads. “This test was in line with our ongoing programmes,” Iranian media quoted him as saying.

“We have previously announced that we will execute the programmes we have planned in production of defence equipment meant for our national interests and objectives. Nobody can influence our decision.

“We will not allow foreigners to interfere in our defence affairs.”

Iran’s ballistic missile programme has been a bone of contention with the West since the nuclear deal took effect in January last year, triggering the lifting of international sanctions.

Iran says its missiles do not breach United Nations resolutions because they are for defence purposes only and are not designed to carry nuclear warheads.

Dangerous Crossroads, America Threatens Russia: US Tanks Fire Salvos in Poland as ‘Message’ to Russia

Dangerous Crossroads, America Threatens Russia: US Tanks Fire Salvos in Poland as ‘Message’ to Russia (Source globalresearch.ca)

When 62 ton American tanks fire off salvos into the night in iPoland the commander of US forces in Europe, General Ben Hodges, wants you to know this is “not just a training exercise”. To the contrary, it’s  a message to Russians: “We’re serious — this is not just a training exercise. We are here to convey a strategic message that you cannot violate the sovereignty of members of NATO … Moscow will get the message — I’m confident of it.” I don’t know where Hodges is from but in my neck of the woods when you transport a full armored brigade half way across the world to fire at the doorstep of a rival power the message you’re trying to send tends to get a little confused. Especially when you’re insisting your message is a warning against something — invading Poland — that Russians never indicated they had an interest in in the first place. Maybe Hodges is too young to remember but in 1989-91 the Russians voluntarily gave up a giant land empire. In a completely unprecedented move for any great power the Russians allowed dozens of nations and hundreds of millions of people to assert and declare their independence without ever being forced to do so militarily. Why would they ever re-invade places they had already given up when they didn’t have to? Except of course if they ever got nervous about Americans, Germans, Brits and who knows who else installing themselves on their border. We need to ask, do the likes of Hodges actually believe their own nonsense, or are they just trying to stir things up to keep careers and budgets going?

Bible Clearly Says Gay Marriage Is An Evil Act, It Therefore Has no place in America

Bible Clearly Says Gay Marriage Is An Evil Act, It Therefore Has No Place In America’ – President Trump (Source otimestv.com)
US President, Donald Trump has allegedly frowned at the news of a gay couple that wants to get married February, a US tabloid reports.

Recall several social issues disappeared from the WhiteHouse.gov site Friday, including a page dedicated to LGBT rights.

A report on the Labor Department’s website on LGBT workers rights was also removed. Advocates for the LGBT community have worried about what a Trump administration would mean for the progress made on equality issues under President Obama. As a candidate, President Trump said he is opposed to same-sex marriage which is clearly spelt out in the Holy Book as evil. Similarly, vice president Pence has taken strong anti-gay rights stances throughout his political career.

And while it’s standard for the new administration to update the White House’s official website with its agenda as part of the transition it is notable that the Trump administration did not choose to include anything about the LGBT community. In a statement Friday afternoon, Chad Griffin, president of the Human Rights Campaign, said, “If President Trump truly believes in uniting the country, now is the time to make clear whether he will be an ally to the LGBTQ community in our struggle for full equality. We are prepared to do whatever it takes to protect our community and our progress.”

Russia in biggest Arctic military push since fall of the Soviet Union

Russia in biggest Arctic military push since fall of the Soviet Union (Source unpresidentednews.com) The nuclear icebreaker Lenin, the pride and joy of the Soviet Union’s Arctic great game, lies at perpetual anchor in the frigid water here. A relic of the Cold War, it is now a museum. But nearly three decades after the Lenin was taken out of service to be turned into a visitor attraction, Russia is again on the march in the Arctic and building new nuclear icebreakers.

It is part of a push to firm Moscow’s hand in the High North as it vies for dominance with traditional rivals Canada, the United States, and Norway as well as newcomer China. Interviews with officials and military analysts and reviews of government documents show Russia’s build-up is the biggest since the 1991 Soviet fall and will, in some areas, give Moscow more military capabilities than the Soviet Union once had. The expansion has far-reaching financial and geopolitical ramifications. The Arctic is estimated to hold more hydrocarbon reserves than Saudi Arabia and Moscow is putting down a serious military marker. “History is repeating itself,” Vladimir Blinov, a guide on board the icebreaker Lenin, which is named after communist revolutionary Vladimir Lenin, told a recent tour group.

“Back then (in the 1950s) it was the height of the Cold War and the United States was leading in some areas. But we beat the Americans and built the world’s first nuclear ship [the Lenin]. The situation today is similar.” Under President Vladimir Putin, Moscow is rushing to reopen abandoned Soviet military, air and radar bases on remote Arctic islands and to build new ones, as it pushes ahead with a claim to almost half a million square miles of the Arctic.

Irving-Based Boy Scouts of America to Allow Transgender Children

Irving-Based Boy Scouts of America to Allow Transgender Children (Source nbcdfw.com) The Boy Scouts of America says it will allow transgender children who identify as boys to enroll in its boys-only programs. The Irving-based organization announced Monday that it had made the decision to base enrollment in boys-only programs on the gender a child or parent lists on the application to become a scout. The group had previously held a policy that relied on the gender listed on a child’s birth certificate. A spokeswoman for the organization says it made the decision based on states and communities changing how gender is defined. An 8-year-old transgender child in Secaucus, New Jersey, was asked late last year to leave his Scout troop after parents and leaders found out he is transgender. But the statement issued Monday said the change was made because of the larger conversation about gender identity going on around the country. “For more than 100 years, the Boy Scouts of America, along with schools, youth sports and other youth organizations, have ultimately deferred to the information on an individual’s birth certificate to determine eligibility for our single-gender programs,” the statement said. “However, that approach is no longer sufficient as communities and state laws are interpreting gender identity differently, and these laws vary widely from state to state.”

War with US ‘becoming practical reality’: Chinese military official

(Source tribune.com.pk) A Chinese military official has warned that war with the United States is becoming “a practical reality” after the swearing in of Donald Trump. “A war ‘within the president’s term’ or ‘war breaking out tonight’ are not just slogans, they are becoming a practical reality,” the South China Morning Post quoted an official from the Commission’s Defence Mobilisation Department as having written on People’s Liberation Army’s official website. On January 20, an official from the People’s Liberation Army wrote on its official website that the US’s ‘rebalance’ in Asia, its deployments to the region and its push to arm South Korea with the THAAD missile-defense system were provocative “hot spots getting closer to ignition,” The South China Morning Post reported. “We hope that the US will rein in at the brink of the precipice and avoid going farther and farther down the wrong path,” the authors wrote on the Chinese military’s official website. Trump and members of his administration have consistently voiced a hard line against China. Aides have said that Trump plans a major naval build-up in East Asia to counter China’s rise.

Russia: Putin, Trump could meet before July

Russia: Putin, Trump could meet before July (Source usatoday.com)

Russian President Vladimir Putin could meet face-to-face with President Trump before July, after the two leaders held an hour-long phone conversation over the weekend, a presidential spokesman said. Dmitry Peskov, Putin’s spokesman, told Russian news agency TASS that the two could “quite likely” meet before a Group of 20 summit in Hamburg, Germany on July 7-8. He said he hoped the leaders’ aides will “waste no time” in preparing. Trump and Putin spoke Saturday in their first phone call since Trump became president. Peskov said was a “good, constructive conversation.” In a statement after the call, the Kremlin said the two “had a detailed discussion of pressing international issues.” They included fighting terrorism, the situation in the Middle East, the Arab-Israeli conflict, Iran’s nuclear program and the Korean Peninsula, the Russian government said. “The discussion also touched upon the main aspects of the Ukrainian crisis. The sides agreed to build up partner cooperation in these and other areas,” the statement said. “During the conversation, both sides expressed their readiness to make active joint efforts to stabilise and develop Russia-US cooperation on a constructive, equitable and mutually beneficial basis,” the Kremlin added. Peskov said that Putin and Trump did not discuss sanctions. He added: “We have seen a readiness to solve difficult problems through dialogue, which President Putin has long been calling for and unfortunately in previous years did not find a response (to),” Reuters reported. Putin and Trump have expressed a desire to have a closer relationship, after the Obama administration imposed sanctions against Russian businesses and individuals for Russia’s alleged attempts to interfere in the U.S. presidential election to Trump’s advantage, backing of separatist forces in Ukraine and illegal annexation of Crimea.

World Is at ‘Historic Turning Point’: Vladimir Putin

World Is at ‘Historic Turning Point’: Vladimir Putin (Source thetrumpet.com)

Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered what was perhaps his most important speech, and definitely his most direct criticism of the United States, at the Valdai Conference in Sochi on October 24, 2014.

One independent analyst called it “the most important political speech since Churchill’s ‘Iron Curtain’ speech of March 5, 1946.” Another called it “epochal,” and a “marker of the end of the U.S.’s brief period as the one big, unchallenged bully on the block.” Another labeled the speech “a precursor to World War III.” Yet the mainstream Western media largely ignored the speech. Mr. Putin has proven himself in recent years to be a leader unhindered by modern Western notions of what “appropriate” foreign policy is, unrestrained by the status quo, and absolutely unafraid to use Russia’s great might to further the nation’s interests. For those reasons, his landmark Sochi speech should not be ignored. The main points of the 41-minute speech are as follows: The systems that have provided global stability for the last few decades are collapsing—and America is the author of their destruction. More and more nations are focusing on arms buildup, making global anarchy a real possibility and much more likely. Although Russia does not want the current chaos to spread, it does not fear war. It views the outbreak of another global war as nearly inevitable; so Russia is preparing for it. The decision of whether or not a new world order is to be constructed is not up to Russia alone, but it is a choice that cannot be made without Moscow. Russia is no longer interested in carrying out international politics in backroom negotiations, but is ready for serious agreements if they bring about collective security and are in Russia’s best interests.

Western attempts to punish Moscow have only made Russia stronger and more self-sufficient. Russia is looking to Asia more now, but it doesn’t want to shut the door on the West. Despite Western trends, Russia favors traditional values. Russia has no desire to build a new empire, as it has plenty of territory it needs to focus on developing. Russia has no intention of acting as a savior of the world, although it has brought about “positive results” recently in Syria, Iran and North Korea. “Today’s discussion took place under the theme: New Rules or a Game Without Rules,” Putin said. “I think that this formula accurately describes the historic turning point we have reached today and the choice we all face.” We have reached this vital turning point, Putin explained, because the United States mismanaged its strength and power. “Pardon the analogy, but this is the way nouveaux riches behave when they suddenly end up with a great fortune, in this case, in the shape of world leadership and domination,” he said. “Instead of managing their wealth wisely, for their own benefit too of course, I think they have committed many follies.” “This [U.S.-led] group’s ambitions grew so big that they started presenting the policies they put together in their corridors of power as the view of the entire international community. But this is not the case.”

Putin said that as a result of America’s mismanagement of its power, and the lack of consensus in the international community, the era of U.S. global leadership is now at its end. America “threw the system into sharp and deep imbalance,” he said. Putin spoke bluntly, saying the result of this imbalance could be another world war. “[L]et us not forget history’s lessons,” he said. “First of all, changes in the world order—and what we are seeing today are events on this scale—have usually been accompanied by if not global war and conflict, then by chains of intensive local-level conflicts.” If the world stays on its current path, “we would be left with no instruments other than brute force,” Putin said. In recent years, whether inside Russia or Georgia or Ukraine, Putin has shown he is not afraid to use brute force. He has demonstrated granite resolve and ability that is quite unlike most Western leadership. Because of this, the nations should pay close attention to his views and opinions. They should take note when a man commanding so much power says he sees changes underway that could ignite World War III.
